PIERCING AFTERCARE
First I would like to note that you must be sure your water is from a clean source. If your water source is from a well that is not tested quarterly just use distilled water. Piercing Aftercare *please note: cartilage will take an extended time to heal. Cartilage has no blood flow and does not have an inflammatory response to an injury. 1. WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST. 2. Clean your piercing with non-scented soap and water. You may find a q-tip works well. 3. Completely rinse your piercing with clean fresh water. 4. Pat dry with a clean paper towel, don't use linen towels. 5. Apply anti-biotic ointment (not cream) to your new piercing sparingly and rotate your jewelry once each way to ensure a small amount of ointment reached the inside of your piercing. Do not rotate, touch or play with your piercing between cleanings. 6. Do this 2 times daily for 10 days then do cleaning once daily until healed. 7. If you think you have an infection DO NOT REMOVE JEWELRY FOR ANY REASON, consult your piercer immediately.
Oral Piercing Aftercare 1. Oral rinse must be used. Rinse no more than every one and a half hours. Rinse after meals cigarette or sweet drink for two days then after two days every two hours gradually increasing the time between rinsing until the end of 10 days. Over-use may cause a discoloring of the tongue, if this happens increase the time between rinsing. If using Listerine please note that you can only use the original yellow diluted at least 50-50 with distilled water. Blue and green has sorbitol and will slow the healing process. 2. Peak swelling will occur between 48-72 hours, using extra strength Midol will help reduce muscle inflammation. 3. DO NOT CONSUME ANY ALCOHOL FOR 72 HOURS AFTER YOUR TONGUE PIERCING. 4. Do not consume dairy products for the two weeks as lactic acid will increase soreness. 5. Do not consume citrus for two weeks as it will burn and irritate your new piercing. 6. Do not bite your fingernails, open mouth kiss or engage in oral sex. 7. Do not touch your jewelry with out washing your hands first. 8. Keeping your mouth cold will help to minimize swelling (cold water, pop-sicles, slushies etc) 9. Make sure to check your jewelry during cleaning once daily to ensure the parts are snug. 10. Brush you teeth twice daily with a new brush purchased for this piercing, also gently brush your jewelry to remove any build up.
